Auntie Kathie & Uncle Michael are visiting..

This morning I found the strangest creature on the sofa, it seemed to be half male half female, they were attached at the feet, but each appeared to work independently from each other. Although when I asked it, would it help to tidy up before we went out it disappeared, never to be seen again....quite bizarre...

So we went to Mums today as my Auntie Katie and Uncle Michael came to visit. They come every year around Christmas time to bring presents and cards, then they go on to other friends and then pick up their turkey and go home. They live in broxbourne in a picturesque cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is always a whistle stop visit but it is lovely to see them.

Charlotte looks like a cock on a dung heap and I'm not sure what Sam and Katie are doing..

So we made our way through the slippery, cold, iced pavements to see that the trees were all frosted over, quite pretty really but flippin cold...

Oh and Guess what Sam did....

Yep, he fell over, again...

It took ages for us to pull him up and a car wanted to go round the corner but we couldn't get him upright even with four of us pulling him up by the coat and laughing... the driver must have thought we were nuts..

This is part of the icicle that we saw at the doctors surgery the other day, kids can't leave anything alone can they.

We stayed at mums a while after Auntie Kathie and Uncle Michael had gone and we watched a film, we headed home about half past six to have tea. Now it's raining and is so cold I think I just want to go to bed and hibernate..

That's why Mums go to Iceland (the shop)...

Yep, you guessed it, we went to Iceland, the shop not the country...Obviously...

I had a phone call this morning to say we might have visitors for a few days but at this point only one of them will arrive today, so there was a mad dash to Iceland, (the shop) well, as fast as you can madly dash in the slippery snow. Jim and I went to Iceland (the shop) and filled out trolley to the brim. I very rarely go shopping, most if not all of the time I shop online at either Tescos or Asda.

So here are my freezers, full to the top with goodies from Iceland (the shop).

There was only a few packs of bacon half a bag of carrots and a few escaped peas in the bottom so we filled the whole freezer up to the top, we will not be going hungry...

Again, this freezer was looking desidedly bare, but now it is all full, I couldn't fit another thing in. In fact I had to put some apple pies and mini pavlovas in the fridge. Didn't we do well..

Now, before you go I just wanted to show you the bin in our alleyway, you might remember a photo from the summer of Jim being a scruffy urchin in this bin.

Now it is full of water and about 8 inches thick of ice on top.

This really is Mums bin to Iceland (the shop). Sorry I know it's bad....

Going to the dentist in the stupid snow...

Jim and Sam had a dentist check up today, I like to book them in every half term during the holidays. I take them two at a time because it's to confusing to take them all at once. Charlotte sat with Katie and in two weeks or so Katie and Charlotte will have their check up. Neither of them needed any thing done but Jim fell out of bed about a month ago and chipped the tiniest bit off of one of his teeth, we didn't realise till the next day, the dentist lady put the smallest piece on his tooth to straighten it and you could not tell it was ever broken...quite amazing.

Jim has got himself a cold so finds it hard to breath out of his nose so you can imagine what it was like for him in the dentist chair. Bless his heart he has a little red nose like a reindeer...

After we got out of the dentist surgery I made them have a picture..

"No fillings today Mum"

As you can tell, Jim was not impressed, Sam however was glad to oblige...

So we got the bus home and walked down the ungritted roads which I might add are safer to walk on than the pavements.....

OK, nearly as safe. As you can see I rushed to his rescue......

He was laughing so I thought I'd take his picture anyway.

So, we made it home and Had some lunch and what do I find in my freezer??

Yes, and icicle... And that's not all..

In amongst the frozen peas and ice-cream, a balloon filled with water,

sorry no, not water...Ice.

I have to live with these children day in day out, It's got to have a long term effect on you hasn't it.

So, after lunch Sam and I popped to Mums to drop off some newspaper and then on to the doctors surgery to pick up Jims tablets. The park has very uneven ground and whist it looks flat, it really isn't and you could fall into a hole of deep snow..

This is the park in the height of summer at those herberts at the end of the Field are mine..

So finally we got to the doctors and we found an amazing icicle that would not fit in the freezer even if you tried.

So, to finish, apparently we have more snow on the way and I have had enough, I'm fed up of being cold, we have had the heating on more than usual but it's still cold.I'm fed up of washing wet gloves and trousers, putting newspaper at the door for the wellies and old bed covers to cover the door mat because of the drippy children, I'm fed up of saying "shut the door"and fed up of saying "can you feel a draught?" and I'm frightened that when I got out that I will fall and break my neck or worse still that when we walk and hold hands, if I go, we all go.. could you imagine it...I think we'd make the papers with that!!

So here is the snow that is coming our way....

Stupid snow....

Plans for the future.

I have mixed feelings about snow. On one hand I love it as it can be so beautiful and watching it fall reminds me of childhood, you know when you get that squiggly feeling in you tummy of excitement, it makes the world look clean and it sparkles like it's full of glitter. It's silent and falls like, like....well like snow falling silently....
you know what I mean, don't give me that look...

Then, on the other hand, I look out and see that after a few days, I can't wait for it to be gone, it's become dirty and dangerous, you can't be out for too long without the fear of hypothermia of the extremities. I worry when the children are out, that they are in on time and knowing how cold it is, that they don't get too cold. I mean, it is lovely if you don't have to be anywhere but I can imagine if you have to drive in it or walk to and from work it can be a pain.

So I've not ventured out much over the last couple of days and so, in my head I've been making plans. Plans for the garden mostly. I want to do better this year with any vegetables that I grow, be more organised. I want to do some container growing as most of my garden is slabbed over, a good idea at the time but now the kids are older and they don't bring in handfuls of mud, I want some dirt to dig into.
I'd also like to buy a couple of awnings for the back garden, we are south facing and that sun in full summer can be so hot, so I figured that a couple of awnings will give us plenty of much needed shade. It will certainly keep the back of the house much cooler.

Talking of cooler, this is the sky dish outside Katie's window, no wonder the picture was snowy...

And just because it's winter I thought I'd slip in a summer picture just to remind us of what warm and sunny looks like...

OK, two pictures, I couldn't resist it ...

A present, just because I love you...

Today the children had some presents, I know most people would have presents at Christmas or birthdays and so on but as we don't have either Christmas or birthdays it would be crazy not to have presents at all... everybody loves presents don't they and it's so true that it better to give than to receive, I just love the looks on their faces when they see something all wrapped up. So today the children had a couple of presents each today, just because I love them...

Sam had some Knex and a scooter and some airfix models.

Katie had a baby and a buggy with a big pack of Playdoh...I love the smell of that stuff.

Charlotte is into Deathnote amongst other things which is Anime or Japanimation......I don't know either.... So she has a book, a t-shirt, a keyring and a soft toy of one of the characters of the film she likes.

And I'm not sure what I have done with the picture of Jim but he had Yugioh cards, a football and a remote control mini..

Oh yes and Jim had snow...... of which he collected up...

And continually threw at the house in the hope of knocking it over I think..

And as if that wasn't enough, he bounced on the trampoline whilst doing it too.....

So I figured here was a kid with too much time on his hands, so I put him to work on some snow clearing.....

And when he had finished, ALL the snow that you see behind him was gone. He did the neighbours pathways too and salted them. What a good boy.....even with the pink gloves!!!!

Has it really been that long....

I know it has been a while since I last blogged but life got in the way and so forgive me please but I shall try to make up for it with some snow pictures,
(a feeble effort I know).

Looking at the weather report yesterday Phil Avery said he and other weather persons were going to be booked into hotels for the night, knowing they might not get into work for this morning. So I figured that there would be snow and lots of snow means no school...

Under there somewhere is our pathway.

Yep, there it is....

This is what it should look like...

In the BLIZZARD this is what became of our bird table, bread and nuts everywhere...

Under there somewhere are the rabbits, Poppet and Jinx, don't worry I have now checked and they are both fine so I fed them and they each have a digestive biscuit for a treat. Now the sun is out they are fluffing up their fur and getting warm ish...

I haven't seen icicles for ages so here is one, it's only about two inches long, so I pulled it off as Charlotte wanted to see it but wouldn't come out. I took it in to her for her to see and SHE ATE IT....!!!

Early this morning, looking out of the window you could see the little drifts of snow up the window.

So, what else has been happening.....

Well Jim and Katie tried to play twister...

Charlotte made some lovely apple things in cookery class, she made then and we ate them in about ten minutes flat, they were lovely.

Katie watched some T.V...
Still, it's cheaper than getting a T.V licence...

So there we are, my first blog in a while. I hope now that I have more time at home over the next 18 days (I'm not counting really) that I will have more time and get back into the swing of blogging again..

So, what's been happening??

What a busy few days, I get so busy and then by the end of the day I snuggle down in my bed and think "Oh, bum I didn't do my blog, I know I'll do it tomorrow" and then the next day I get to the computer and as the mouse has AGAIN died and is in the bin,
I asked to borrow Charlotte's but she is using it and so I can't get on the computer until she's finished with the mouse....and then it's time for bed. So I have pinched it from her room while she is at school, so don't tell her !!!

So what's been happening ?? I hear you say ...

Well with Jim, I spoke to his head of year who is plainly in denial about Jim having ADHD and doesn't want to deal with him, She said that "The ASD Department will offer him 1 hour a week for a chat to see if he can discuss how to improve his learning, what goals he can set for himself and so on...."

The Core Learning department " Won't put him in their group as he is too intelligent and they feel he will find it too easy and get bored," apparently they work at level 2 (what ever that is!)..

SO, I said "Did you speak to the SENCO Department for me or shall I speak to them?"
She said "Oh no, I didn't speak to them, I didn't think of that" Yes, Exactly!!!!
So the next day She phoned me back and said......wait for it.......

"Apparently, as Jim has a diagnosis of ADHD from a professional consultant the SENCO Department have suggested that he have a doodle pad or a stress ball or toy to aid in his concentration, he needs to sit at the front of the class, he needs to have clear guidelines for good and bad behaviour and positive reinforcement when he does well, all the teachers need to be notified as to his condition so they can monitor his behaviours with his condition in mind"

I calmly said "Yes, that's right" ....and then poked my tongue out at her down the phone...

Talk about teach you Grandma to suck eggs!!!

She sounded as though she had been told how to deal with Jim as he has a problem and is not just being naughty..
Way to go SENCO lady...

However, we are not out of the woods yet, I still need to see if this works and it's not just words. But it is a start...

So I will make an appointment to see the SENCO Lady anyway so I can monitor their progress....Phew....At last!

So, what else....

We have had a busy weekend in the garden, I enlisted the help of some unwilling volunteers to help hack the garden to bits, here is Charlotte doing an impression of Chuck Norris on some unsuspecting weeds that wouldn't go in the wheelie bin quietly and in an orderly fashion...

Now here is a bramble bush thing, the one which Charlotte is attacking, before...

And there it is ....Gone...

This is the bramble, well most of it as we had to cut some of it off to be able to pull it out, it must be about 10 foot long..

Here is an old work boot I pinched off some workmen a few years ago,

(a long story, maybe another day) but I planted some of my pretty flowers in it.

Here are the other flowers, some just in pots or a basket but the rest are in "Mr Potter". It makes the doorstep look much brighter..

Also, one very over grown veggie patch....before..

And after....

And now for something completely different, here is Jim watching TV last night while eating popcorn, I must have about four or five photos of Jim with headbands on over the years and it doesn't seem to bother him. If the biggest bully in the school came round he'd still not take it off !!!

And finally..............

This is Sam's DT project for school that he had three weeks to do and decided to start it last night!! It had to be in today....can you hear me sigh....

So Charlotte and I helped him make this castle, Charlotte made the draw bridge and I made the portcullis... Sam did lots of glueing, we did LOTS as well, but don't tell his teacher though...

Sam had such a job saying portcullis, it was everything from "cork pulliss" to"court pullis" and the best one was "pork Cutlis" ... He did try..

Oh, the joys of children.....

Thank goodness it's Friday

Ahh, the end of a busy week, I seem to have coasted from one day to the other, not really touching the sides this week, not really achieving much but being very busy all the same.
I have talked to the school about Jim and they are really dragging their heels about what to do with him. I have been looking up the "code of practice " for children with special educational needs and it appears that as Jim has a diagnosis of a mental illness the school is obliged to help him or they will be in breach of the "disability discrimination act 1995" ( always wanted to quote something important like that !! ) where it states he has "a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities." This includes having the ability to sit and learn in class.
I can see this is going to be a long fight... Firstly because I'm not particularly brave, so I will muster up every ounce of courage I have to ask them very nicely and quietly and politely to teach my son without discrimination or I will just have to burn the school down..( just kidding !!)
After taking some welcome advice from my good friend Philip, my first stop will be to the SENCO lady at the school and then if I have no luck with her I'll have to take it to the Headteacher and see what happens. Ohh I'm so brave now!!!

So, what else have I been up to this week, well I managed finally to get some tarpaulins for the rabbits hutches as the weather is getting quite autumnal now, and while I was there I got one for the Wendy house too.

So here are the bunnies with their covers which when layed out cover the whole hutch and I layed a plank across the front to stop the wind whistling around their trossachs. They are held in place by a ladder on each of the roofs so it doesn't blow away.

I bought one for the Wendy house too and I know it doesn't look pretty but I don't think a drop of rain will get in now. I don't want all the hay to get wet, so I have also tied it down so it won't blow away, the tarpaulin not the hay....

I have a feeling that the weather is trying to lead us into a false sense of security by being all nice to us and sunny and soon it's going to turn and be all windy and wet and flippin' miserable.

And finally I spotted this daddy long legs outside on the wall when I got home from school today, Charlotte said "that's disgusting"..... so that's her official comment on the biggest proper daddy long legs I have ever seen..
