Panto time...

Yep, you guessed it, we went to the pantomime last night and it was BRILLIANT.
The children really enjoyed themselves and I think Nanny enjoyed it to
(I saw you shouting!)

With many thanks to My Auntie Hazel, who kindly got us some tickets,
we went to see Aladdin.

It was so much fun, there was all the terrible jokes, a very bald Wishy washy,
lots of songs and dancing, they squirted water into the audience which Jim loved. There were laser lights and the usual "It's behind you" screaming it was so funny...

Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take in my camera but I have these pictures instead..

How good am I...

Katie had a hard job working out if Widow Twanky was a man or a lady,
for a while she was very confused,

She asked when he came out in a very short dress,"Is that a lady?"
So I said "no, it's a man dressed up"
She stared, confused for a while and she asked "Are you sure, it looks like a lady?"
Then he spoke in a deeper voice and she looked at me and said "yep, It's a man!!"

Then there was the villain who we all loved to boo and hiss at,
My kids are so good at pantomime audience participation...

And here is the whole cast who were brilliant, the little fella in the front was the Genie and he was dressed in a gold 70's style suit and the biggest Afro you had ever seen and he spoke like Barry white....
They threw sweets into the audience and Charlotte caught a marshmallow which she was very proud of, even though she doesn't like them very much....she might frame it..
Again, Thanks to Uncle Eddy, who dropped us off and picked us up which was lovely as it is at least -40 outside , no exaggeration, I think we would have really struggled with the ice and the cold while we waited for a bus.
I think all in all we had a lovely time and we were very tired of shouting and laughing by the time we got home.

Where's my shopping?

I was woken this morning at 7:05 by a text from Sam and Katies school saying they would not be open today. I found out late last night that Jim and Charlottes school would be shut anyway. My mind then turned to the fact that the shopping I had ordered from Tescos hadn't arrived last night. I had received a call about 5 o'clock to say the order was going to be late and should be here between 7pm and 10pm... a little late I know but she (the Tesco Lady) assured me it would get to me.

By 11pm I went to bed..

I phoned Tescos this morning and after pressing my way through there selection of numbers I came up with the department I wanted and an engaged signal.....
After a number of attempts I decided to email them. By 3pm I had no reply by phone or email so decided to pop to the shops to get some more milk and bread.
The shelves were empty, there where two tubs of dried skimmed milk and no UHT milk. I took one tub just encase someone else needed the other and some tuna for tuna fishcakes in the week and headed home. Mum tryed Tescos for me and with greater success.
They had misplaced/forgotten my order....apparently I was not the only one and he (the Tesco man) was to ring me at home to explain why I had been misplaced/forgotten.
As yet I have had no such call. Still I have been booked in for the 11th .....
4 days away...

I came home to do a stock take of all the things we have at home and fortunately we will live that long. I will have to check the shop tomorrow and if they have no bread or milk I will have to make some bread and quickly find a cow....
Still not to be down hearted we made pink biscuits and jam things....

The mixture, expertly mauled by Katie started out normal looking....

But for some reason it turned very bright pink....

We put a splodge of icing on top and dipped them in some grated chocolate...

Then we made this Jam thing, we made some sweet short pastry and put some strawberry jam in and folded it over, a little sprinkle of demerera sugar and....

Roberts your mothers brother................ (Bob's your Uncle)...

This one was more or less the same but with apricot preserve and sliced almonds.

So that's been my day today, bunnies are OK, but it was so cold last night their water froze, I will keep a close eye on them but they are both very fat and when I squeeze them they feel warm..They should be fine..

Snow Joke

More snow, I am not impressed... I woke up this morning at 6:15 as usual and went to wake Charlotte up. She has to leave at 7:30 and it takes her a while to get moving. While I waited for her to emerge from her slumber I checked on the schools website to make sure it was open. As it turned out the schools were shut and so I suggested that she head back to bed but by now she was wide awake. At 7:30 this is what it looks like outside when she leaves for school...

If you squint and look really closely you can make out the chimney tops.

I think we have had about two or three inches at this point.

Eventually I managed to log onto Sam and Katies school website but it had no information about whether it was open or shut. At 7:30 I phoned the school only to be told they hadn't made a decision yet, they were waiting to see how many teachers turned up. So I woke Sam and Katie just in case we did have to go in to school.

So we silently got washed and dressed and had breakfast of weetabix and ready brek. We tiptoed out of the door so we didn't wake up Jim. We assumed the school would be open and if not we would just walk back home again. However, It was open...

So for today I had to cancel an appointment I had in town as there was no way I was getting there in this weather and as two children where at home. So today Charlotte and Jim played around in the snow.

Looks like a bit of a stand off here...

Let the bouncing commence...

Jim's looking confident...

Jim has employed some dirty tactics...

But you know what's going to happen don't you...

Yep, he's down... don't be fooled by that smile....

Really he's begging for mercy...

Never underestimate the power of The sister.....

By midday I had a text from school to say they were closing at 2pm as they had a report of another bout of snow on the way at 3pm. So I headed out at 1:45 to collect them before the snow began to fall.. At 1:45 the snow began to fall...typical.

I think, by the time it had finished we had another two inches...

It finished about 3 o'clock when we got in...

And as usual there was another puddle of shoes and socks at the door...

And finally, Poppet and Jinx had a good nights sleep and for once their water didn't freeze up, they said "thank you for our new carpet but next time we want something in green..."

Fussy rabbits....

Snuggly Rabbits

OK, I have a feeling this is going to be a big entry today, I have two days to catch up with and ALOT has happened, I hope you can keep up.......

Well, I will start with today and the Snuggly Rabbits because I know you want to know what that's all about right?
Well watching the weather like I do, all the time, I see some more cold, cold, cold weather coming our way, did I mention it's going to be cold?... and although the rabbits are covered I didn't feel happy that it was so cold and I didn't want rabbit Popsicles if you know what I mean.
So Sam and I stacked them up on the bench and covered them with carpet and two tarpaulins.
We had intended to put them in the Wendy house but there was already something in residence there and neither Charlotte or Sam would go in there. (sorry Mum)

As with most things like this Charlotte's official comment was quote:
"That's disgusting!!"

I was very brave and screamed and clapped my hands like a demented seal only once when it moved, but in the end the hutch wouldn't go in and turn enough to go round the door. So we opted for our plan B, which was to move them closer to the house and fill their cages to the top with new hay and cover them right up..

So what do you recon? Snuggly rabbits or what?...

Poppet was deciding whether to hoover or dust first...

Underneath there are more bags of hay and shredded paper for the under floor heating system.

What with the solar panel on top, I think they will be quite comfortable....

Then Jim came home, he is standing on a bucket of ice which he has poked a hole in, like those Eskimos that wait for a fish to bite in the ice hole.

Jim with more ice....he wanted to do a surprised expression and this was the third attempt, to be honest I think the moment has gone.....
So that was today, but yesterday.......
Katie and Charlotte had a trip to the dentist for a check-up.

Both came out happy that it was all over for another three months...

Katie in particular...

I can't understand why people don't like having their photo taken in a public place whist eating food....

We nipped into Burger King for a quick bite as Katie felt sick with hunger and she had some healthy "apple fries"...yum.

And then on a jolly big yellow bus to take us home...

Now before I finish I'm going to share with you what really happens as a day in the life of Rachael Plummer....

You see, my life is not all happy joyful trips to the dentist, snuggling up with bunnies, no, no, no, that would be too simple.... This, what you see above, is a minuscule snapshot of what happens on a day to day basis in my house......

It all started when the children and I were changing round the bedrooms and Charlotte needed the Internet cable poked through a hole in the wall, into the next room via a floor board.

To cut it short we (Charlotte and I) are shouting on one side "can you see any light?" and " have you made a hole yet?"

"I can see the light" was the reply "I'm going to poke the screwdriver through to you"

We said "are you sure?"

The reply was "Oh Bu99er, sorry Mum. But I can see light now"

Yes, the downstairs hallway light.!!!!

I won't mention the guilty party, but suffice to say, Jim was very sorry....

seeds....

Oh the joys of planning my garden for this spring and summer. When I can't get into the garden because it's too cold and the ground is frozen, I like to ponder over what I will grow and where this year.. As the garden is mostly slabbed I am going to try to reorganise the space I have and grow things in containers, like potatoes...

Without the aid of a seed catalogue I found the Unwins website and spent far too much money on seeds.

So brace yourself for a veritable vegetable extravaganza....(and flowers seeds too).

Starting with cornflowers...one of my favourites...

Dahlias...

Star bright something-or-other...

One of my Dads favourites, Sweet peas..

Spuds....

Salad leaves...

Tomatoberries....

Beans that grow purple and when cooked go green...

Mini munch cucumbers...

Long carrots....

And stubby ones...

So now all I need is some plastic surgery, liposuction, get some dungarees, dye my hair...

and I'm there....

Christmas week..

Doesn't time fly when your having fun...

Over the last week the boys went away to Auntie Sharons and Uncle Regs house in Wales. Sharon phoned me a couple of weeks ago and had suggested that the boys could come to her for a few days over the holiday and spend some time with her two boys. This past week has been really busy and I had a call to say do they want to come up the next day...

Will someone please tell me....

Just why.....

Will no one.....

Be serious....?

I know my kids drive me insane and I am often on the brink of despair with them.
OK, only Sometimes, well no...actually most times, No, thinking about it,.....yes, all the time... but anyway, to see them go, even for a few days is really hard to do.......

But after the first day it was really easy and the silence in the house almost hurt my ears..

So for three glorious days me and Charlotte and Katie vegged out, we went to town, we ate pizza, no one weed on the toilet seat let alone left it up, for three days in a row we could find the bath plug and soap, no one argued, no one shouted, there was food left in the fridge when we went back to it, the house actually smelt clean and not of boy smells....you know the kind I mean..
We even watched TV with NO INTERRUPTIONS!!! like a whole program right up to the adverts.

...Bliss....

And then......They came home....

Still it was nice while it lasted...

So one day we went to town and here are some pictures of Katie threatening to run people over in a car with "Arthur" and "Barney".

We also had lunch in Tescos...who says we don't know how to have a good time...?

Katie was very pleased with her dinner. What she left, me and Charlotte polished off as Katie had the last dinner and we had a Tuna and Cucumber sandwich.

But the boys are back now and life is back to normal....

New years eve came and went, So this year ? Well, the diet begins AGAIN... I will be trying to simplify my finances and my plans for the garden this year will start to take shape as spring is just around the corner...OK, so two more months of winter, but it will be here before you know it.

And this year, I will DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY, turn into Barbara Good even if it kills me...!!!!
